60% of Photoshop Users are PIRATES!

Research by Brian Auer on Epic Edits Weblog shows that 60% of photoshop users are using pirated software. 500 photograhers responded to the survey in the first week it ran and it showed that both Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom are very popular in the pirated software arena. He is going to leave the survey running for a while longer to see if the results change.

Is Adobe Photoshop Really $649 better than GIMP?

Anyone who has used Linux, and increasingly even people who only use Windows are using a software package known as the GIMP (GNU Image Manipulation Program) which is essentially an open source clone of Adobe Photoshop. The listed price for Photoshop on Adobe’s website is $649. I for one, find the GIMP to more than suit my needs for creating web graphics and many others are starting to agree with this line of thinking.I admit that Photoshop overall is slightly better at this point but the fact that you need to run it on Windows and the high cost make it very hard to justify spending so much money, also, if you have a business where you run multiple copies of Photoshop you are legally obligated to buy a license for each copy of the software you run, which can add up quickly. I’ve read many comments about GIMP posted around the web and its often something like “in Photoshop to do something this way you just do this, but in GIMP you have to do it this way and I’m not used to it”. Well guess what, just like it probably took you some time to master Photoshop it will take you some time to master the use of the GIMP. The software runs differently, the little nuances of a program like Photoshop are different, for the most part, so doing something as simple as duplicating a layer has a different process but its not that hard to adapt.read more | digg story
